PSL is making some exciting additions and changes to our coaching staff for our 2017/2018 travel teams.  Here's a preview of the new coaching staff arrangements by team:

HS-Varsity (2019/2020): Head Coach - Chris Hooton (Mt. Lebanon) assisted by Chris Vissichelli (Mt. Lebanon)  and Tim Donoghue (John Carroll Univ.)

HS- JV (2021): Head Coach - Ross Acrey (Mt. Lebanon) assisted by Tim Maser (Mt. Lebanon) and another coach to be named soon..

2022/2023 (~U15): Head Coach - Mike Ermer (Mt. Lebanon) assisted by Mike Kaplan (Peters Twp.) and Cody Golon (Peters Twp.)

2024/2025 (~U13): Head Coach: Brian Yates (Upper St. Clair), Gordon Lloyd (USC) and Mark Burnett (USC)

PSL U11 (2025>2027): Head Coach: John Gorman (Upper St. Clair) assisted by Evan Wiesen (Upper St. Clair) and another coach to be named soon.



Mark Burnett
Coach Burnett grew up just outside of Toronto, Ontario and began playing lacrosse at the age of five. Mark won four Provincial box lacrosse championships with the Whitby Warriors.   He played three years in “Jr. B” for the Clarington Green Gaels, winning the OLA (Ontario Lacrosse Association) Jr. B Most Valuable Defensive Player award in 2007.  Mark continued to play for two more years in “Jr. A” for the Whitby Warriors. More recently, Coach Burnett played four years in the Major Series Lacrosse (Sr. A) in Ontario for the Ajax Rock and Oakville Rock. In 2011, he was drafted by the Toronto Rock of the National Lacrosse League and in 2012 played for the Charlotte Copperheads in the Professional Lacrosse League. Mark has also been a player coach for the Pittsburgh Octane in the CILL.

Mike Kaplan

Coach Kaplan is currently in his fourth year as head varsity coach at Peters Township HS, where he has led the Indians to consecutive post season campaigns. Originally from Bethel Park, Mike attended Seton Hill University (NCAA D2) where he was a starting midfielder. He graduated in 2011 with a degree in Computer Science, and now works as a software developer for ANSYS, Inc in Southpointe, PA. Additionally, Coach Kaplan assisted with LB lacrosse's summer travel team in 2016, and continues to play lacrosse with the Pittsburgh Lacrosse Club (field), as well as acting as a player-coach for the Pittsburgh Octane (box).

Brian Yates 
Coach Yates grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, and started playing lacrosse at the age of 8.  He was a defensive captain at Calvert Hall College High School and was selected to the MSA (Maryland Scholastic Association) Under 17 All-Star Team for the Vail Shootout and the MSA Senior All-Star Team.  Additionally, in 1988 and 1989, he was named as a member of the U.S. Junior Men’s Lacrosse Team. Coach Yates went on to play at the University of Maryland on a lacrosse scholarship.  He has also played for The Washington Lacrosse Club and The New York Athletic Club.  He has also coached the Upper St. Clair K-4 lacrosse teams in 2009-2012.  Brian has been coaching for PSL since 2008.

Mike Ermer
Coach Ermer began playing lacrosse at Mt. Lebanon High School and graduated in 1996.  He went on to play at Denison University and was also a student assistant coach through 2000.  Mike continued his lacrosse career as an assistant at Hartwick College (Oneonta, NY) from 2001-2004 and assisted at St. Vincent College from 2004-2008.  Ermer became Head Coach at Fox Chapel HS in 2009 and returned to his HS alma mater as Head Coach in 2010 where he has lead his team to WPIAL championships in 2011, 2013 and 2015.

Chris Hooton

Chris Hooton is an offensive coordinator at Mt. Lebanon. Chris graduated from Mt. Lebanon high school in 2004 where he was a team captain his senior year and part of the 2002 and 2003 Western Pennsylvania championship teams. Chris played college lacrosse at John Carroll University where he switched positions from midfield to attack, was team president from 2006 to 2008 and was team captain in 2008. In 2008, John Carroll University made the NCLL national tournament for the first time in the school's history - Chris led the team in points that season. He was a three time national NCLL all-star at attack. In addition to assisting the Mt. Lebanon high school team, Chris oversees much of the youth lacrosse curriculum at Mt. Lebanon.  Chris has been coaching with PSL since 2015 and started with Mt. Lebanon in 2009.

Jason Rickel
Jason Rickel grew up in Baltimore, MD, an area rich in lacrosse tradition, where he began his lacrosse career at the age of 10.  He went on to play his high school at perennial powerhouse Loyola Blakefield which led to a scholarship to play for Penn State University where he played attack.  Jason graduated from Penn State with an Organizational Leadership degree.  Since moving to Upper St Clair Jason was the Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the Upper St. Clair Varsity program. After his stint with the USC Varsity program he moved onto to his current position of head coach for the University of Pittsburgh Panthers men’s lacrosse club. Jason now resides in Upper St Clair, PA with his wife Lindsay and their four children Holden, Luke, Landon and Penn.

Gary DeCock (General Manager)
Gary is the owner and general manager of Pittsburgh Select.  Gary grew up in the Philadelphia suburbs and played lacrosse at Conestoga HS (2010, 2011 & 2012 PIAA State Champions).  He went on to play attack and midfield for Penn State’s Division I lacrosse team in the early ‘80’s.  After graduation, he played for several years with the Atlanta and Charlotte lacrosse clubs.  In 1988 and 1989, he was head coach of Vanderbilt University’s men's lacrosse team capturing SELC championships in both years.  Gary has coached lacrosse at all levels over the past twenty years.  In 2008, he started the elementary boys (K-4) team at Upper Saint Clair with over 65 players participating in its' premier season.  He also helped to start the USC MS girls program with 54 3rd through 6th grade girls playing in their inaugural 2009 spring season.  Gary has coached with the USC middle school program since 2005 and has conducted many lacrosse camps and clinics for both boys and girls in the Pittsburgh area.  He also served as the  president of WPYLA in 2011 and 2012 and is a volunteer member of the Pittsburgh Lacrosse Foundation (US Lacrosse regional chapter). Gary's father played lacrosse at Johns Hopkins in the 1940's which makes his two children a relative rarity for the area as third-generation lacrosse players.
